SD-104. Building and Developing Quality Teams

This 1-day group workshop is designed to enable participants to merge their 'individual
strengths as well as their cultural and personal differences "in ways that will
create powerful and wise team systems. These attributes are crucial in today's rapidly
changing "do more with less"' environment
OBJECTIVE: Through communication skills, group process strategies, and
exercises, participants in this workshop will learn to advocate for their point of view
and be open to differing perspectives and positions. Techniques for overcoming conflict
and building group consensus will be practiced. Strategies for leading productive task and
relationship-focused meetings will be demonstrated.
OUTLINE:
1. Obstacles to quality teamwork can be minimized by
A. Combating individual and/or group stress and burnout.
B. Managing effectively cultural diversity and personality differences.
C. Balancing conflict and cooperation.
11. Tools and techniques for quality teaming
A. Integrating task and process focus.
B. Practicing communication and conflict resolution skills.
C. Developing an inventory of skills for conflict resolution.
111. Developing team vision and consensus:
A, Developing a team vision and creating "buy-in."
B. Developing innovative group participation.
C. Participating 'in real-life consensus-building exercises to develop and support
organizational goals, objectives, and values.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
1. Participants will bring new problem-solving skills to their teams and a high level
of sensitivity to their colleagues.
11. Anger will not be an impassable barrier. Rather, it will be seen as a point of
conflict that can stimulate new ideas and positions, even trust.
