SD-107. Practicing Organizational "Safe Stress"

This 1-day group workshop is designed to help participants identify symptoms of
individual and organizational stress, as well as to recognize those factors that cause
stress in the work environment. It also provides participants with strategies for
combating work-related burnout.
OBJECTIVE: Through dynamic fun-filled presentations and group
exercises, participants will learn to identify personal stress signals and to recognize
their vulnerability for burnout. They will practice communication, relaxation, and
time-management skills. Finally, they will learn the four "C's" of psychological
hardiness
OUTLINE:
I. Obstacles to practicing organizational safe stress can be overcome by
A. Avoiding the "seven deadly sins" of dysfunctional organizational
structures.
B. Learning to recognize the four stages of 'individual and team burnout.
C. Devising methods for preventing breakdowns in team communication and confronting
grievances.
II. Tools and techniques for practicing safe stress:
A. Productively managing anger and conflict.
B. Facing loss and embracing change.
C. Managing time and overcoming procrastination.
III. Developing combat strategies at the burnout battlefront.
A. Using group exercises to vent frustration and build morale.
B. Practicing creative visualization, relaxation, and recreation for stress relief and
sense of control
C. Developing the four "C's" of psychological hardiness for thriving 'in
transition: commitment, control, change, and physical conditioning.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
I. Participants will learn to monitor the levels of stress within themselves and 'in
their professional and personal lives.
II. Participants will learn communication skills for constructively expressing their
concerns and problem-solving skills for engaging with these organizational stressors
III. Employees will learn techniques for taking more personal responsibility for
managing stress in their professional and personal lives.
